Congratulations Scott Morrison

"I reckon that the Human Rights Commission ought to be sending a note of congratulations to Scott Morrison saying 'Well done mate because your actions have been very good for the human rights and the human flourishing of thousands of people'."
- Tony Abbott 12/02/2015

Keep Walking

Yesterday about 10 government MPs walked out during Bill Shorten's response to the annual Closing the Gap report to Parliament in protest at what they called "political point scoring". The political point they claimed Shorten was trying to score was attempting to explain the impact of cutting half a billion dollars from indigenous funding. This came in response to the report's findings that 4 out of 6 targets are not being met.

Peter O'Neill's Lecturing

Before the PNG Prime minister Peter O'Neill lectures us on the legitimacy of asylum seekers in detention in his country, here is some background on the man:

O'Neill became PM under questionable circumstances in 2011. His appointment was ruled illegal by the PNG Supreme Court. In 2014, when a corruption watchdog found out that O'Neill allegedly expropriated $31 million of public funds, they issued a warrant for his arrest. O'Neill shut down that watchdog and sacked the police chief of operations and several deputy police commissioners. The warrant remains outstanding.

Nanosocialism From Free Information and the Natural Commonwealth

In the broadest and most practical sense, nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter on a very small scale - a nanometre being 10^-9 metres. The utopian goal is the manipulation of atoms or molecules for the fabrication of products (molecular nanotechnology).

Leaners and Lifters

The single most important challenge facing Australia in 2015 is that in this country corporate interests always take precedence over public interests. In an era when News Corporation and 21st Century Fox dominate the media landscape to such an extent that they have become the de facto parliamentary puppet masters, it is important Australians understand the damage that is being caused to every person in Australia by the boardrooms of unaccountable corporations whose primary responsibility is to their major shareholders.

Worst Health Minister

Congratulations to Peter Dutton for being voted worst health minister in living memory. A poll of 1,100 readers of the politically conservative Australian Doctor magazine has rated Dutton head and shoulders below his predecessors (who include Tony Abbott) with one reader describing him as “the dullest, least innovative and most gullible” member of the government.

The cold blooded murder of the Editor of Charlie Hebdo, Stéphane Charbonnier, seven of the editorial staff including world renowned cartoonists Georges Wolinski, Jean Cabut, Bernard Verlhac and Philippe Honore, two police officers, a guest at the editorial meeting and a maintenance worker at a nearby office, is much more than political terrorism.

I am not a Muslim and am therefore not responsible for the actions of violent extremists who are Muslims according to Rupert Murdoch. I am however:
Male - but not held responsible for more than one woman a week being murdered in Australia by her current or former partner.
Of Irish-Catholic ancestry - but not held responsible for centuries of sectarian violence in that country.
White - but not held responsible for the dispossession and extermination of indigenous Australians by other white people.
