While the Abbott government and Murdoch's lackeys have been busy attacking Gillian Triggs over her inquiry into the government's treatment of children in Immigration detention, Australia's Human Rights Commissioner has been characteristically silent.
Tim Wilson has made no comment on the extensive and ongoing human rights abuses towards children documented in Triggs' report. He has also made no comment on the Closing the Gap report which revealed Australia has failed, or is failing, to meet four of the six targets. Nor does he have anything to say about escalating indigenous incarceration rates in Australia, which now stand at four times that of Apartheid South Africa. In fact since being hand-picked for the role by Tony Abbott 12 months ago the only thing Wilson has achieved is a $56,000 payrise.
With a taxpayer-funded salary of $389,000 plus vehicle and telephone expenses and apparently nothing to say about human rights, this is one commissioner we should all be asking to resign.
