Federal Environment minister Greg Hunt today approved 3 million cubic metres of dredging and dumping in the Great Barrier Reef. This follows yesterday's decision by the Abbott government to increase the quota for old growth logging by 35% (against the recommendations of scientists who advised a 10% reduction).
The government are also planning to hand major projects that effect nationally significant natural places and species to state premiers. Premiers like Campbell "We're in he Coal Business" Newman, Colin Barnett with his plans to increase logging in WA by 30-35% over the next 10 years and soon to be Tasmanian premier Will Hodgman who today announced his government would be introducing on the spot fines of $10,000 and mandatory 3 month gaol terms for anti-logging protesters.
Truly a bunch of oxygen thieves.
