Divided Nation and Little People

The story goes something like this. Voters are flocking to Divided Nation (the political party registered as Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party) because they stand up for the little people. Well if you're one of the 33% of Australians who receive a social security benefit or if you're a part time poorly paid worker, nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is a little different. Divided Nation sided with the government in three out of four recent Senate votes.

Divided Nation is big on cutting social security benefits and bringing the budget back to surplus by both cutting social security benefits and making it more and more difficult for an increasing number of Australians to access social security benefits.

If you're one of those Australians who is against immigration, want to prevent refugees from settling in this country and think the 2% of Australians who are practising Muslims are going to take over and introduce Sharia Law and receive a social security benefit or are in part time work, think again before you believe the Divided Nation’s rhetoric and give them your vote because if you're not careful, you'll be next on the chopping block.

If you live in Victoria and think Senator Hinch is a breath of breath of fresh air, think again. Senator Hinch has voted with the Coalition 61% of the time, while on the most important votes he has voted for the coalition 89% of the time. If you live in New South Wales and think Senator Leyonhjelm is your man, think again. The Senator has voted in favour of the Coalition government 77% of the time on issues where the government and opposition were divided.

If you live in South Australia and you think the Senator Xenophon Team are your people, think again. When it came to voting on issues the government and the opposition are divided on, they sided with the government 66% of the time. The current Senate cross benches are packed with anti-union, anti-refugee, anti-social security Senators who naturally side with the government on most important questions.

One Nation as we will see in Western Australia next week, is indispensable both to state based Liberal Party governments and the Federal Liberal government. The Liberal Party is happy to ditch its current agreements with the National Party if it can obtain Divided Nation’s support. Nothing is about to change until inclusive anti-capitalist pro-worker and pro-social security parties are elected to the Senate.
